About

THE STORY

Birdhouse Punk started with the vision to create art for social good. In 2021 we began making and marketing functional birdhouses with artistic joy, sold to help support our community. Birdhouse Punk profits go to local charitable organizations, including but not limited to The Beacon, The River Food Pantry, and Care Portal.

We believe the world needs art, but even more crucially, people need basic provisions like food and shelter. And yet, too many of our fellow community members struggle to secure basic provisions.

When you purchase a Birdhouse Punk birdhouse, you are not only acquiring art or benefiting birds, you are giving vital help to those who need it most. This rocks.

THE BIRDHOUSES

Our birdhouses are built from untreated cedar and painted with non-toxic, eco-smart paint. Intended for three main types of birds – wrens, chickadees, and bluebirds – each house is spec’d to accommodate birds safely and comfortably. From the size of the entry portal to the dimensions and geometry of the house, our birdhouses are built with the birds in mind.

Key features like floor holes for drainage, ceiling gaps for air circulation, and sloped roofs for watershed protect birds from the elements. Metal portal guard, mounting bracket, and perch-free entrance protect birds from predators. All houses have ridge cuts inside for birds to easily exit and a swinging/locking side door for simple emptying/cleaning.

THE CHARITIES

See below for a list of local organizations benefiting from Birdhouse Punk sales.

THE ARTIST

Christian Ezell designed, built, and painted each original Birdhouse Punk birdhouse. Christian is a high school English teacher who lives in Madison, Wisconsin with his wife Betsy, daughter Jane, son Finn, and cat Louis. Christian cares about good art and social justice and believes the two can go hand in hand. When he’s not teaching, he’s undoubtedly reading, writing, painting, or hanging out with family, and friends.
